Product title checker for Merchant Center
Check product titles against Google's own title guidelines and the order of attributes that works per category. One title at a time, or a whole feed export at once. Every finding says where the rule comes from.
Runs entirely in your browser. No cookies, no tracking, and nothing you type or upload leaves your device.

What it checks, and where each rule comes from
- Length. Google allows 1 to 150 characters in the title attribute.1
- The first 70 characters. Google writes that users "will usually notice only the first 70 or fewer characters of your title, depending on screen size".1 The checker shows where the cut falls and flags attributes that start after it.
- Promotional text, capitals for emphasis, extra white space and gimmicky characters. All four are on Google's list of don'ts.1 Google states the rule; the words and symbols the checker looks for are a list I wrote, so treat a hit as something to look at, not a verdict.
- Variant details. Google asks you to "Add the distinguishing details of each variant to the title", such as color or size.1
- Apparel. Google recommends "Brand + Product Type + Other Important Attributes", putting strong brand names first, and including gender, age group, color, size, material and pattern.2
- Electronics, beauty and books. These are my own working patterns from feed reviews, not Google rules, and the checker labels them that way. Electronics leads with brand and model number, beauty with brand and then product and variant, and books with author and title (the brand field in a book feed is often the publisher).
Two Google rules that pull in different directions
Google's best practice is to "Use all 150 characters", because the title is used to match your product to searches.1 It also says to put the most important details first, because shoppers see about 70, and that key details belong at the front "especially if they're not visible in the image".3 Both can hold at once: what decides the click goes up front, and the rest of the space carries details that help matching.
Not checked
- Whether the title describes the product on your landing page, which Google requires.
- Words from other languages that shoppers may not understand (also on Google's list).
- Whether a word in capitals is a brand or an established abbreviation. Fill in the brand and the checker leaves it alone.
